“There is a raffle at school tomorrow for Red Sox tickets,” John said to me when he reached me on my walk that afternoon. “What….Really?!? Yeah, for the game tomorrow night. Should I put in for them? Do you want to go?”

“Uhhhhh yes, kind of. It’s going to be cold and I’m really tired and we have a lot going on this weekend already and….what about you? I’m really on the fence,” he said.  “I’m tired too and it’s been a long week but we never got there last year and I don’t want to be a curmudgeon. I know and I don’t either. And free is SO hard to pass up! OK, I guess put in for them then and we’ll see what happens.”

Around 1ish the next day I texted John to ask if he got tickets. A simple “no” was the response. YAY, we are not going! I am super tired and not feeling great. We’ll have a nice quiet dinner by the fire and perhaps early to bed to rest up for our weekend plans!

About an hour later I heard my phone vibrate as I was ending a session. It was a text from John that said “We got tickets.” Noooo…crap…damn! I want our quiet night in! What the hell happened? Where did those tickets come from?

OK, Mandy, get yourself ready, psyche yourself up! You’re going to Fenway tonight, and you’re going to have a good time! You LOVE the Red Sox, and you love baseball, so get over it!

So, I proceeded to get ready. I changed my socks, took out two heavy layers, my winter coat, my gloves, my hat and some bottled water. Ready to brave the elements and keep myself hydrated too, lol. John got home, did much of the same, and off we went for our night out at the ballpark.

So, why is this story relevant? And why am I sharing it with you?

Well, you’ll just have to tune in next week…
